Quality and real value for money

When it comes to value for money and new car ownership for those shopping on a budget, it’s hard to think of anything you go and buy these days in Gainesville, Buford, Cumming, and Duluth that can beat the 2022 Nissan Versa. The Versa isn’t just a subcompact sedan that’s extremely affordable to buy, it also offers extremely low running costs and that full manufacturer warranty that do call into question the justification for buying a used car.

Trim levels and styling

The 2022 Nissan Versa range is as compact as the car itself with just three different versions available. The entry-level version is the Versa S, the mid-range model is the Versa SV, and the top-of-the-line model is the Versa SR.

Despite its extreme affordability, it’s hard to find any aspect of the Versa that signals cheap in any way. The Versa’s stylish profile and its well-organized interior help it look considerably more expensive than it actually is, and you’ll even struggle to identify any of those scratchy, low-grade interior materials that are so often common in such affordable vehicles these days.

Powertrain and performance

2022 Nissan Versa performance and MPG

This isn’t the kind of car where top speed, 0 to 60 mph acceleration, and quarter-mile times will be of any consequence to potential owners, but MSRPs and running costs do. Nissan has therefore equipped the Versa with a perfectly appropriate engine which is a 1.6-liter inline-four that develops 122 horsepower and 114 lb.-ft. of torque that gets sent to the front wheels through either a five-speed manual or Xtronic CVT transmission. The Versa S comes standard with the manual transmission but the CVT is available and it’s standard if you go for the SV or SR.

You might be happy to swallow below-par fuel economy from a car that’s priced as competitively as the Versa, but the good news is this fabulous little car is as cheap to run as it is to buy. The most affordable S model with the manual transmission is the least fuel-efficient with EPA ratings of 27 mpg in the city, 35 mpg on the highway and 30 mpg combined, but CVT-equipped versions are considerably more frugal with ratings of 32/40/35 mpg respectively.

Features and equipment

You’ll probably find more standard kits on the entry-level Versa than you’d expect as the S comes with automatic emergency braking, 15-inch wheels, auto on/off lights, air conditioning, power features, keyless start, cloth upholstery, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The infotainment system doesn’t have Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, but it does if you step up a level to the Versa SV, which will also give you 16-inch alloy wheels, blind-spot monitoring, and better-quality cloth upholstery.
